The Debian TeX Live packages are comprised of (currently) 80 packages in total.
The most important are:

provides the basic binaries and scripts, but is practically useless by itself

provide documentation in the respective language

<code>texlive-lang-spanish</code> provide language-specific support, like
hyphenation patterns
